10-Hour Offshore Fishing Adventure

10-Hour Deep Water Adventure with Outlaw Gunner

Get ready for a full day of serious offshore fishing that'll test your skills and fill your cooler. We're talking about a 10-hour marathon session where we push out 50 miles into the deep blue, targeting some of the Gulf's most sought-after bottom fish. This isn't your typical half-day charter – we're going the distance to reach those pristine offshore grounds where the big fish live. Captain and crew know exactly where to drop lines for consistent action on lane snapper, vermilion snapper, red grouper, porgy, and hard-fighting amberjack. Plus, if you're lucky enough to book during early June, we'll be hunting red snapper during their precious open season.

What to Expect on the Water

This trip is built for anglers who want the full offshore experience. We'll depart early morning and make the long run out to the productive bottom structure 50 miles offshore. The boat holds up to 4 anglers, so you'll have plenty of elbow room at the rail and personalized attention from the crew. These deep water spots sit in 120-200 feet of water over rocky bottom, ledges, and artificial reefs that hold massive schools of snapper and grouper. The captain has years of experience working these offshore grounds and knows exactly which GPS numbers produce the best action. You'll spend the day anchored up on prime spots, working heavy tackle and dropping baits to the bottom where these fish congregate. The crew will keep you in fresh bait, help with rigging, and make sure your drag is set right for the bigger fish we'll encounter out there.

Bottom Fishing Tactics & Gear

We fish these deep offshore spots using traditional bottom fishing techniques with heavy conventional tackle. You'll be working with 6-8 ounce sinkers to get your baits down through the current and keep them pinned to the bottom where the fish are feeding. The crew rigs everything with circle hooks and knocker rigs that give your bait the best presentation on the rocky bottom. Live and cut bait works best out here – we're talking squid, cigar minnows, and whatever live bait we can catch or net up. The key is keeping your line tight and feeling for that telltale thump when a snapper or grouper picks up your offering. These fish don't mess around – when they bite, you'll know it. The crew will coach you through fighting techniques, especially when you hook into a big amberjack that wants to take you around the structure. Proper pumping and winding technique is crucial when you're dealing with fish in 150+ feet of water.

Species You'll Want to Hook

Lane snapper are one of the most reliable catches on these offshore trips, and they're absolutely delicious table fare. These colorful fish typically run 12-16 inches and have bright yellow stripes with pink and silver sides. They school up heavy over rocky bottom and once you find them, you can catch them steady all day long. Lane snapper are aggressive feeders and will hit cut squid, cigar minnows, and small live baits. What makes them special is their sweet, mild flavor that's perfect for grilling or frying – they're a customer favorite for good reason.

Vermilion snapper, locally called "bee-liners," are another staple of these deep water trips. These bright red fish are absolute dynamite on light tackle and school up in huge numbers over the offshore structure. They typically run 10-14 inches but fight way above their weight class. Vermilions are curious fish that will often follow hooked fish to the surface, giving you shots at multiple hookups. Their bright red color makes them easy to identify, and their firm white meat is some of the best eating you'll find in the Gulf.

Red grouper are the prize catch of these offshore grounds, with fish ranging from keeper-sized 20-inchers up to genuine trophies pushing 15-20 pounds. These bottom-huggers are ambush predators that sit in holes and crevices waiting for an easy meal to swim by. When a red grouper hits your bait, you better be ready – they'll try to get back to their hole immediately and break you off in the rocks. The key is stopping that first run and keeping steady pressure to work them up off the bottom. Red grouper have a distinctive reddish-brown coloration with darker mottling, and their size makes them perfect for the grill.

Porgy might not be the flashiest fish in the cooler, but these chunky bottom fish are absolute eating machines and great fun on light tackle. They school up heavy over shell bottom and rocky areas, often mixing with the snapper schools. Porgy have powerful jaws for crushing shellfish and will readily take cut bait fished on the bottom. They typically run 10-12 inches but their deep, chunky bodies provide good-sized fillets with excellent flavor.

Amberjack are the wildcards of these offshore trips – when you hook one, get ready for a battle. These powerful fish can range from 15-pound "almaco" jacks up to 40+ pound bruisers that will test your tackle and stamina. Amberjack are structure-oriented predators that patrol the edges of reefs and wrecks. They hit hard and make blistering runs, often trying to wrap your line around whatever structure they can find. Fighting a big AJ in deep water is a real workout, but the satisfaction of winning that battle makes it worth every bit of effort.

Time to Book Your Spot

This 10-hour offshore adventure represents the best value for serious anglers who want to maximize their time on the water. You're getting access to prime fishing grounds that most weekend warriors never reach, with a crew that knows these waters inside and out. The combination of multiple species, consistent action, and top-notch eating fish makes this trip a winner every time. Whether you're looking to fill the freezer with premium fillets or just want to experience world-class
